Sep 28, Paul at Berea

Good Sunday morning from Thessaloniki!

We continued on our journey in the steps of the apostle Paul, leaving Thessalonica (today, called Thessaloniki, green pin map) to the location of Berea (today, called Veroia, red pin on map).  In Veroia, the modern city, we made a quick visit to the monument to Paul visiting Berea. Our final destination was Kabalaka (blue dot).

We pick up the passage in Acts 17....

As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men. But when the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God at Berea, some of them went there too, agitating the crowds and stirring them up. The believers immediately sent Paulto the coast, but Silas and Timothy stayed at Berea. Those who escorted Paul brought him to Athens and then left with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible. (‭Acts‬ ‭17‬:‭10-15‬ NIV)

Here's the monument to Paul's visit to Berea.

This mosaic depicts Paul speaking to the Berean Jews who have "great eagerness."

Some disciple-wannabe of Paul. Paul did say in his writings, "Imitate me..."!

:-)

We then continued our travels to the Meteora mountains in the center of Greece, where there are monasteries built on top go several mountain tops. The view is breathtaking!

This next picture is of the monastery we went into.  We were not allowed to take photos but what we saw inside the monastery chambers were beautiful wall to wall Byzantine artwork.

We are bedded down for the night in Kalabaka (blue dot on map).  Tomorrow, on to Athens!

I want to send a special thanks to Patricia for assuming the lead in Sunday school and small group.  I appreciate you so very much and for the everyone's prayers!
